Logan turned one this weekend. I gave up on the gluten free cake idea and made two traditional Angel Food cakes and a vat of chocolate pudding from the yolks leftover from the cakes. They were a hit! The cake recipe is from the Joy of Cooking, unaltered except after I made the first one, my sis-in-law told me that one of the babies in attendance has a nut allergy, so I made the second without almond extract. Probably wouldn't have been an issue, but better safe than sorry!
I love this picture from my shopping trip: 2.5 lb giant blocks of chocolate, butter, 2 dozen eggs, 2 containers whipping cream, 2 containers half-and-half, 2 bags sugar, oreos...and celery.
Logan was a fan of the whipped cream...not sure if he had any cake, but the rest of us sure enjoyed it. Pretty sure this was his first sweet treat ever (barely-sweetened whipped cream) so his mom had to give his his first bite or two before he caught on.
