Spring Capsule Wardrobe

This spring I'm all about flowy tops with jeans, cardis, and a few comfy sweaters. I put together a little mood board that makes me smile from ear to ear!

The wardrobe I've pulled together is full of tanks, tees, and button-front shirts in greys and neutral stripes, and springy aqua, blue, and peach, plus jeans, my aqua skinny pants, and my neutral Beignet. I've thrown in a couple of dresses for warm days: after our trip to the Bahamas this spring I remembered how much I L-O-V-E sundresses, and I think I'll just ignore the fact that they are absolutely not practical for people with babies :).

The wardrobe is 30 pieces, a bit bigger than I think the "capsule" concept intends, but I was so excited to be able to fit into almost all of my pre-baby clothes, I was pulling everything that thrilled me and I think that's a great way to start the season.

I have
-7 tanks (and that hat, amirite?)
-5 tees
-6 long sleeved shirts/sweaters
-4 pants, 3 dresses
-3 cardis
-1 jean jacket
-1 skirt

That last row, the dress and 2 tanks, is the "use it or lose it" department. I love these pieces but have never worn them, and if they don't earn their keep this season they'll be headed out the door!

There are a few "to-makes" that are in the queue. From the divine knits we just got in over at the shop: a flowey tank, plus a denim skirt from indiesew.

I'm excited that I didn't purchase anything for this season (thought if I come across that grey and white baseball sweater from the mood board you can bet your boots I'll be snapping it up)! Plus I took a good honest look at my closet and got rid of several bags of items I haven't worn in years. Take a look at that lovely tidyness...

So tell me friends: what colors will you be wearing this spring? And how big is too big to be considered a capsule wardrobe?? :)

  1. What a great idea! I've always wanted to pare down to the few things I like. Gonna try it....SPRING CLEANING WOO.

  3. Cara, I'm so excited you're going to try it! I just went through everythig really fast so I couldnt second guess, and I put away some things, as opposed to getting rid of everything. Anything that didn't excite me didn't make the cut. Let me know how it goes!!

  4. Every time I see a capsule wardrobe I am always inspired by it, but I don't really do it. It does motivate me to go through my closet though. I'm in a consigning mood, so everything that I don't love has been getting tossed in a pile and consigned.

On a side note, I went to H&M for the first time ever two weeks ago and fell in love. How have I never been in this store before?! Cute shirts for under $10?! It's a good thing I live in the middle of nowhere or I might've actually started spending money on my wardrobe.

I wanna see photos of the green skinnies and one with that gold top! :) Not necessarily together. Or maybe together. Who knows - my fashion sense is non-existent!

    1. Vanessa, I'm so happy it inspired you! I'm really loving it.

H&M is so tempting, I basically don't go in there. It kind of works against what I'm trying to do: fewer pieces that are well made and that I love-->less throwing away-->greener and more wallet friendly. H&M is so darn cute, I just have to avoid it ;).
Green pants + sequin shirt?? Challenge accepted! :)
